I have attended Allatoona high school for all four years of high school. The academic opportunities are abundant. The communication of outside programs are extremely poor. Clubs are not well advertised and internships and stem programs are not discussed. Social studies has one program that is advertised to students. The arts are amazing. Theater won the one act state competition (2023). Most teachers are willing to aid students in their academic journey. Admin overlook many problems that are large in Allatoona. These issues include racism, homophobia, and sexism. It is not a diverse school. It does not have diverse admin (all of them are white). There is diversity in teachers.
My experience at Allatoona was not bad at all, I admit. I never got in trouble. I did what I was supposed to and I worked hard. Though I really worked hard to be able to get out of there quicker than most. I had a stepping stool throughout my high school years because my brother was the top wide receiver to go through Allatoona. So, if we are being honest, I got lucky. I was never mistreated at school. However, that does not mean that I did not see the unfairness and disrespect other students received.
Allatoona likes to describe itself as diverse, and accepting, and that it can do no wrong, but that's a lie. Any student or even person who knows when something is not right can see that Allatoona is not like that. When I went there I saw a lot of picking and choosing. When girls were out of the dress code the teachers would mainly target the students of color. You could have a caucasian and an African American girl right next to each other, but they will dress code the African girl.

Some of the AP classes are overrated, especially the teachers. Majority of the coaches are teachers so if you play a sport you know the majority of them. They talk, if you’re a good athlete some may help you out. Student population is 60% white, and the rest is a mix of African American, Hispanic and Asian students. School size is less than 1,600. Strict dress code, nice vending machine snacks, and school basically is run around athletics. A lot of students participate in at least one sport or are in a fine arts program. The biggest organization on campus is the Orchestra. Just graduated in a week ago. I won’t miss the actual school, but I’ll miss my favorite teachers/coaches, friends and the memories made at AHS.
