Although most of my experience in high school was taken away due to the pandemic, I had a great experience at my high school. Most teachers would help me and accommodate my needs and concerns when necessary. The school spirit is astounding and helps make school activities memorable and fun. The highlight of this high school is the college and career readiness program. This program has helped me, and other students, tremendously in figuring out plans after high school, whether attending a four-year university or joining the workforce. For example, there is a week specifically for college readiness, in which staff would help us with college applications and applying for FAFSA. A problem I did have with the school was some of the administration members and their attitudes towards certain groups of people. Sports like the cross country team would get forgotten in the athletic department and would not have as much funding as other sports, regardless of a large amount of participation.
My high school experience at Alisal High School was great, I enjoyed being part of the Cross Country and Track & Field team which let like a close family. I had great teachers that cared about their students a lot and constantly offered resources such as community service opportunities, mobile hotspots, free/reduced lunch for students, and college workshops for students to attend. Being part of the AVID program at Alisal High my teachers guided me through the college application process, explained financial aid, the different paths I can take after high school whether it's a community college, a CSU, UC, private, or out o state university. Something I would like to see more of is diversity, our community is surrounded by many Hispanic/Latino students which are great but I think interacting with different groups and cultures could bring students closer.
Something I Liked about Alisal was how diverse it was and how everyone was included in the activities. The school itself is a safe place for people because of the clubs that there are. One disadvantage of going to this school is how you’re only able to express yourself to a certain extent. Everything must be run through ASB and if they don’t like your ideas then things don’t go anywhere. For example, a student wanted change and wanted to start his own union to help incoming students but it wasn’t approved by ASB and he was being force to shut the club down. This school has potential but things have to change.
