Akins is like a mini college. There are different parts that works for students and their majors. The food is amazing! There are many options such as pizza, Chinese food, burgers and much more! There are also A and B days where we go to 4 classes a day!

My experience of Akins High School was great but sports wise. I played volleyball all of my 4 years there, and 2 years on varsity. I made plenty of friendships and won a couple of awards. It was a great experience being coached by Mandy Thomas. She was a big influence in my life and pushed me to play at the collegiate level, where I won a national championship my first year there at Eastfield College. As for being a senior at Akins high school, I had the worst experience due to the principle Brandy Hosack. She was the worst principle ever and I am glad that she moved to the Dallas ISD district because Akins deserves someone way better than that. She pulled me out of prom and didn't let me participate over something small. I had good grades and I stayed on top of school work but because of a choice that I had in MIND but wasn't done (throwing a party, which every high school does), I got taken out of prom. All the money I spent was gone to waste.
I love Akins High School! It was created by an educated man of color, which created a system were you start getting ready for college in high school.
Akins lets you choose a major your sophomore year and you stay with it till you graduate, they also have a college prep office and a bunch of programs and classes that get you ready for life beyond highschool. I think that's pretty awesome because you have a better idea of what to expect from college and give you a chance to plan your future sooner. I loved my experience at Akins! And we won District my senior year for Girls Basketball and I received district MVP so I went out with a bang repping like an eagle should!I'm so Proud to be an Akins Eagle!
