I love Akins High School! It was created by an educated man of color, which created a system were you start getting ready for college in high school.
Akins lets you choose a major your sophomore year and you stay with it till you graduate, they also have a college prep office and a bunch of programs and classes that get you ready for life beyond highschool. I think that's pretty awesome because you have a better idea of what to expect from college and give you a chance to plan your future sooner. I loved my experience at Akins! And we won District my senior year for Girls Basketball and I received district MVP so I went out with a bang repping like an eagle should!I'm so Proud to be an Akins Eagle!

I enjoyed all four years of my time at Akins High School. I was blown away by the work of the college-readiness that they had prepared for us our junior and senior year. Further, I was blown away by our success rate of college acceptance for our graduating class of 2013!
I attended Akins High School for four years. I was in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) academy. The teachers in this academy did a really good job engaging with their students and making it a priority to have interactive classroom lectures. Akins had other academies such as AHA ( Arts and Humanities Academy), ABLLE (Academy of Business, Leadership and Legal Enterprises), GTA (Green Tech Academy), SSA (Social Services Academy) and last but not least NTA (New Tech Academy). These were academies that students chose from based on the career field they wanted to pursue. There were always events taking place at Akins. Prep-rallies, fundraisers, dances- I wasn't the a student that had much school spirit but it was easy to tell which students did. Akins was full of the typical high school experience. It was a good four years. I walked out of that school with my life long friends, and my career goals right in the palm of my hands.
