My school is small, which means we have poor funding but good experiences with the teachers. Our academics program seems to be ahead of other schools because when there is a new student they are behind in classes. Overall the experience is a good one, that prepares students for the future. I hope to one day come back and teach at this school.
This school is fairly limited in the diversity of its students. Being a small rural school, people who are agriculturally and athletically involved are usually more accepted. It is difficult for a student to start to cultivate their own behaviors and beliefs, seeing that differences aren't always welcomed. However there are small groups that tend to stick together, despite what others think about them. Bullying and peer pressure are present as they are in every school, but mostly in a backstabbing verbal way. If the subject of the bullies shows they are uninterested and continue to flourish in grades and succeed, the pressure settles. I've actually found the most support from the teachers. They are excellent in helping young adults find their own strengths.
The school has recently undergone some construction, setting up new air conditioning/heating systems which is a nice feature if the ceilings would stop leaking now. The high school boys and girls bathroom pipes are out of commission due to a pipe busting. That is the first time that has occurred, but repairs are being completed as we speak.
Technology wise, our school is very advanced for our size. Grades 3-6 all have computers per two desks, and there are three computer labs in the High School, one in the library, one in the tech room, and one down by the agricultural room. Most classrooms in the high school end have a smart board/projector now as well.
Teachers are extremely friendly to students and willing to stay after school, or come early if necessary, to help a student who really wants to learn. We just got a new guidance counselor after not having one for two years and she is always willing to help the seniors with college plans and scholarships as well as students who need moral support.
