Ad Fontes Academy provides a rigorous academic and Christian education for students from Junior K through high school. Using the classical model of education, students are taught HOW to think, not what to think. The teachers are gifted both in ability to teach as well as their commitment and investment in the lives of our children. Relationships are so important at our school. Students feel safe, loved, and encouraged. The small teacher-to-student ratio ensures that every child is cared for academically, but also socially, mentally and spiritually. With an awesome culture, great teachers, Christian world-view and engaging curriculum, the kids thrive. Younger and older students both find a love for learning and natural curiosity that will be with them forever, no matter what path they pursue.
Our child attended AFA for a few years and we felt the need to warn other parents. This school seems great at first, however, you find out throughout your time there all of their hidden issues. Specifically in the Upper School for us. Teachers in the Upper School have Masters, PhDs, etc., but no grade school teaching degrees or experience outside of AFA. Because of this, they overwork their students so much that most of them come out of graduation with a mediocre GPA. (Most parents say their child had/has under a 3.0). A 3.0 or lower is pretty bad when you're trying to get into colleges. These classical christian schools claim their level of difficulty is preparing students for college, but it's not. It's only hindering them from getting into a good college. On top of this, tuition in the upper school is almost at a college level tuition. That's nuts and not worth it!! Put your child in a public school with good credentials and they will have a better chance of success.
Superb academics, loving and nurturing environment and a Christ-centered education (and I really mean this --- God is present in every subject at Ad Fontes). Ad Fontes is truly a gem to Northern Virginia parents seeking Classical Christian Curriculum. The teachers care tremendously for the students and thrive on students fully engaged and excited about learning. The principals who lead the staff are godly, wise and tremendous leaders.
