Academy of Health Sciences at PGCC Reviews

The Academy of Health Sciences has shaped me into the person I am today, and there is nothing I would change about the experience I've had! The program is extremely rigorous, especially the teacher prep pathway that I was a part of. Parents and students should have a very serious conversation about work ethic before making the decision to attend AHS because the level of difficulty is not for everybody. To overcome these challenges, students are provided with wonderful support staff, and the school is so small that everyone feels like a large, dysfunctional family.
The Academy of Health Sciences is a very rigorous school and if you are not ready to work hard and dedicate several hours a week simply completing coursework and studying, this school may not be your best fit.
Being at this school has broadened my experiences in many ways, both education and personal wise. The amazing teachers help every student understand and learn each subject in ways that are efficient. Simultaneously experiencing the college life has also been a meaningful part of growing up and maturing. Our counselors guide us through the high school/college transitions each year as they gradually get more challenging. Ultimately, this school has prepared me for college/university in many ways, and I have learned lessons that I will take with me after graduation and into the real world.
I really feel like I belong at AHS and it is the right school for me. I never thought that I would end up here when thinking about high schools but I am glad that I did. AHS is an amazing school and if you are interested in Sciences or Education I think it is the best option for you.
The teachers in AHS are passionate about teaching and are supportive. The professor of PGCC vary, but as long you maintain focus and have great time management skills, it will be alright. During Freshman and Sophomore years, you will be in a cohort and stay in the area of AHS rather than different parts of the campus. During Junior and Senior years, you will have much freedom and time will be controlled by you rather than the school. It is not hard, there are times you do need to pull an all-nighter or want to cry, but if you don't give up it will all be worth it. It's okay to cry as long as you don't give up :)
The Academy of Health Sciences was a roller coaster. Everyone came in feeling uncomfortable, but at the end of the day we all became a tightly knit family. We learned so much in our classes and outside of them. Now we are more prepared for college and I’d like to add for life, than any other high school student. I genuinely wouldn’t change a thing.
I just graudated from AHS @ PGCC. Overall, it was an okay school. It did give you an associates degree at the end, but it's not for anyone who wants a traditional highschool experience. There weren't that many fun activities but the school did improve a lot after the principal switch.
Good teachers and staff. Nicely structured curriculum. They provide students some freedom by allowing them to obtain an associated degree whilst completing highschool.
This school allows students to pursue an associate's degree while managing high school courses. If you want to graduate early in a four-year institution, your credits (depending on the college) will transfer to the school, allowing you to graduate in less than four years. You build long-lasting relationships with students and faculty throughout your four years at this high school. The high school covers the cost of your dual-enrolled classes and textbooks so you do not have to worry about the costs.
The professors for the most part are easy to communicate with, you just have to make the first step....
In my experience I have come across many highly experienced educators who truly have a passion for teaching. The teachers at AHS each day have a mindset of working toward the betterment of their students.
I love the constant support from the staff, and they really do set you up for success. Sometimes the program does get a bit hard, but it's possible and you will always have support along the way so don't worry. It's a rigorous program, yes, but if you constantly push yourself you can most definitely make it!! Also, it's not all about academics, there is still time for fun like any regular high school.
PGCC is a school that is very academic based, so if that's for you, I'd say go for it. You take around 20 college classes during your time there, which prepares you a lot for how the college pace is.
With this being said, AHS is not a school to go to if you want to play sports. It is not a traditional high school. We don't have pep rallies, we don't have sports, we don't have a lot of your fun high-school activities like Art, choir, band, etc. If you want the high school experience, I wouldn't recommend going to this school because you'll be heavily disappointed, however, if that stuff doesn't bother you, I'd say go for it, you just have to keep in mind that since this is such a heavy education-based school, it can get hard to keep up with everything.

The previous administration was inconsistent and non-helpful. It was also unfair that we could not participate in sports and activities on campus.
Great school, engage professors, strong support system. Quality education. No sports at this school but that leaves plenty of time to study.
This is a wonderful school to send your child. All the staff and faculty members care about the success of the children, they make sure that you have everything you need to succeed.
I would like to see more of an emphasis on things outside of academics such as clubs, the arts, and activities.
