I like the community at AMES. Everyone encourages each other to do better and challenge themselves. I have so many things that I probably would not have done without the encouragement of the AMES community. This includes things such as a difficult class I was hesitant to take or a volunteer experience I was unsure about. Now I am so glad I did these things. One thing that should change at AMES is College Forum. College Forum was designed to help us prep for college whether it was the admissions process or succeeding in college however, College Forum has not been very effective in my personal experience. But AMES is in the process of changing it currently. So hopefully College Forum reaches it's full potential soon!

There is a pretty good culture at Ames that pushes you to be better. Your peers are hardworking high achieving students, who are also doing theater/music, robotics, debate, or sports. Ames itself doesn’t offer sports, music, theater, debate but that’s because you can do it through Cottonwood. Sports can be played at other schools too. You’re exposed to a lot of diversity in all aspects, and everyone around you wants you to succeed. Counselors are easy to get a hold of in my experience and help you develop and achieve goals and give you information, and they have a pretty good website with lots of resources. On average the teachers are pretty good, and there are a handful that are just amazing and leave a lifelong impression. There are a few classes that are not as rigorous or as structured as they should be, they're not bad classes and you'll still learn, but it's something to be improved. Teachers communicate well so there aren't overlapping tests and big homework assignments.
Although I am currently enrolled as a freshman now, the experience so far has been wonderful! The teachers and faculty are so engaged and committed to help see us (their students) succeed. They are doing whatever they can to help us understand material and are always having a positive attitude. I would definitely rate AMES the best high school!
