From Academe of the Oaks

Founded in 2003, Academe of the Oaks’ educational approach encourages students to think beyond memorization and standardized tests, emphasizing active involvement and creative consideration. Here, we learn from experience.

Academe offers a proven college preparatory education in the sciences, mathematics, and humanities, led by teachers with advanced degrees in their subject areas.

Our challenging curriculum matches content area to student development. Major subjects are not taught separately in compartmentalized classes, but woven across disciplines so that students connect big ideas to a growing awareness of the world around them.

Our academic vision is rigorous and deliberately different, centered on primary source materials rather than textbooks, and driven by an infectious excitement for intellectual discovery.

Academe of the Oaks offers a classic, rigorous curriculum delivered by engaged, excellent teachers. The small size of the school allows for an individualized approach, enabling students who want to do more to do so. The student body is diverse and international.
We were looking for a high school that would be challenging and exciting, and that would allow our daughter to grow academically and socially as she prepares for college and beyond. Among others, her freshman year included classes in organic chemistry, thermodynamics, constitution and civil war, geology, history through art, revolution and reform in addition to advanced math and Spanish. She participated in clubs and electives including debate, newspaper, Amnesty International and Global Nomads. The year offered two overnight school trips, several plays and music performances that were truly impressive!
Academe is the school we were always looking for but did not find until 9th grade. It is a gem of a school!

Academe has been a truly incredible experience for my son, now a rising sophomore. The academic rigor, the interesting and varied subject matter, and the outstanding instruction have kept him engaged throughout, and always working to learn—but in a highly collaborative environment that nurtures the potential within each student. The strong visual and dramatic arts curriculum has provided a very well-rounded educational experience. The diverse social/student community is warm and welcoming at all grade levels. The extarcurricular activities and school clubs offer something for everyone. And the learning trips have provided (literally) once-in-a-lifetime experiences with his school community. Our son will leave Academe highly prepared for college, but even more so, well-prepared as a citizen of the world.
Our son relocated back to Atlanta from life overseas. The school gave him individual attention and support, and helped ease our family back into the American culture and school system. Several Academe families had also lived overseas, and many around the US, who specifically sought out the consistency of the Waldorf experience. My son especially appreciated the block lesson mode of teaching as it gave him exposure to a wide range of subjects not typically found in school curricula such as geology, thermodynamics, chemistry and art history. The teachers went above and beyond to address attention issues, to improve his time and task management, and to build his confidence as a student. The administrative staff are wonderfully supportive, interested and understanding.
