COVID-19 Update for Prospective Students and Families:

For the current school year, AFS offers the choice of full-time virtual or full-time in-person for Grades Pre-K through Grade 8. High School students are learning full-time from home or on a hybrid schedule, which offers in-person school two days a week. With hope on the horizon, we are planning a robust program for the 2021-2022 school year. Learn More

Founded in 1697, AFS is one of the oldest schools in the nation. A Quaker school in culture, not just in name, AFS provides a high-performing academic program in which students are given the tools they need to discover and pursue their purpose and to ultimately transform the world.

AFS has grown since its founding more than three centuries ago, but it maintains its strong sense of community. The school’s dynamic teaching and learning environment includes an Experiential Learning Center devoted to the Quaker principle that experience is a student’s most powerful teacher. The Center acts as the engine that runs an interdisciplinary experiential learning model throughout the school. AFS also has the first certified nature explore classroom in the state, a robust arts curriculum with an award-winning theatre program, a comprehensive Equity, Justice & Engagement program, state-of-the-art maker spaces and robotics labs and a brand-new athletics center for 49 interscholastic sports teams.

My daughter picked AFS for High School for its campus, culture and engaging community. She felt welcomed from the first time we visited thru her entire time so far even though her friends were going to school elsewhere. We couldn't be happier with our choice as our child is thriving academically as well as with her extracurricular activities. The student population is very diverse and her friends are spread out throughout Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery county. The school has additional learning opportunities outside the classroom, including those interested in the medical, business or law profession. A new athletics center with all of the amenities has recently opened. Our family loves being part of the AFS community!

My daughter has studied at Abington Friends for eight years now (she's in fifth grade). She has always loved going to school! She has felt known, seen, and understood by all her teachers. She seems to feel empowered by her classes and motivated to study and do the best she can. At this point in her education, I feel the blend of play and learning has been right. She is experiencing a shift to greater independence and a slightly heavier workload this year and is loving it! I love the school culture--the emphasis on kindness, compassion, and care. The facilities reflect a balance between people-focused community and advanced technology and pedagogy. The school's approach to safety is sophisticated and simple at the same time: know your students and employees well, be attentive to their emotional and mental health, and offer a supportive atmosphere. I couldn't agree more. Community and trust characterize AFS.
My daughter just started middle school at AFS. The school community has been so welcoming, including other students, staff, teachers, and administrators. They have made student safety a priority, and have found ways to still make learning engaging, exciting, meaningful, and on-campus if you prefer that (or online if you prefer that - or a mix). So happy about our family's choice to send our daughter to AFS - it's perfect for her!
