Upon entering AAEC as a freshman, I was nervous as none of my friends from elementary were moving to this school; however, I’m eternally grateful to have chosen this school as I’ve met diverse people and created strong relationships with both students and teachers that I never imagined I would. Since AAEC SM is a smaller environment than normal high schools, more opportunities for interaction are made possible and it is easier to meet new friends. A sense of belonging is also a result of spending time at this school which is often quite hard to acquire.
I appreciate the opportunity the high school has provided me in kickstarting my college career. Gaining the experience from back then has allowed me to feel more comfortable now that I'm in college full time. I would suggest that the school would be a little bit more linient with students not taking college courses or at least be a bit more clear on steps needed to obtain an Associate degree. College really isn't for everyone, especially when you have to find a way to juggle two educational facilities at once. Not everyone is able to do so, and there should be an optional path students can take to not have to set themselves up for failure when they can't balance the two. Lastly, it should be stated early on that extra steps, such as taking summer classes, has to be done in order to obtain the main thing the school advertised: an Associate degree when you graduate.
AAEC Early College High School - South Mountain is an awesome high school! Students here get the chance to take college classes while still being in high school. We have an advantage to graduate high school with a Associate Degree. Our school is an agricultural school, so for students that love animals or want a career dealing with animals our school have classes to help them achieve their goal.
