Western Michigan University Reviews

The College of Health and Human Services has great opportunities for hands on practical learning! Be prepared for a lot of snow and hills on campus. Great bus system and opportunities for jobs on and around campus. A variety of housing is offered close to campus, a ton of students walk as well as drive. Greek life here is a great opportunity to make friends, get involved, and do some networking for after graduation.

I attended Western Michigan University right after graduating from High School, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. The campus is absolutely beautiful. I lived in "on campus housing" and had a meal service plan. It allowed me to be closer to my classes, and to not have to think about grocery shopping, and meal planning. The meals were healthy and offered many options. Furthermore, I love the fact that Western Michigan University is such a walk friendly campus, and so close to the Downtown area of Kalamazoo, Michigan. There are many days that I would go out walking and easily log 10 miles without even realizing it. Kalamazoo has great restaurants on and off of campus, as well as 100's of organizations to be a part of. Due to the fact that my undergraduate experience was such a positive one, I am going back to Western Michigan University to pursue a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology.
I am currently finishing up my speech language pathology M.A. I like that most of the classes were challenging which pushed me to learn more. I know that everyone in the past years have passed the national PRAXIS exam because WMU prepared them so well. I didn’t care for the teaching style of a couple professors, and I feel that the department could’ve given us more information on life after graduation (the licensing process, expected salaries, etc.) Another thing I would like to see changed across all university masters programs is the cost of attendance. My masters degree was very expensive and I’m not sure the salaries for SLP’s in the state of Michigan warrant paying so much for a degree.
