University of Washington - Tacoma Graduate Reviews

5 reviews
I transferred to UW Tacoma to complete my bachelor's in social welfare and decided to return for my master's in social work. UW Tacoma is at a great convenient location, right in downtown. The instructors are of high quality, I have learned a lot from my time there. I have made many good friends in my classes and have enjoyed the university's events as well such as volunteering and guest speakers.
But I would say the drawbacks of UW Tacoma are the parking is sparse, so commuting on public transit is likely a must. And although there are some events and clubs on campus, there are less than other schools because it is a commuter school.

I would NOT recommend this program if you are interested in wanting to be a teacher. This program provides lack of support for the students. The program overall is very unorganized and things are always switched up on us. No one is clear and everyone does things differently.
We have supervisors that guide and support us through our student teaching journey, but all supervisors do different things.
We are placed in Tacoma school districts and we are being told to stay longer than the required time for our student teaching. Some supervisors are requiring student teachers to student teach until autumn quarter (a whole extra unnecessary quarter).
I would NOT recommend this unorganized and unsupportive program.
This campus is also not as diverse as they claim to be.
The graduate program I am in (computer science) invests in offering lots for their students. If you do well in courses, there's opportunities to do projects and research with your professors during your time here. So far all my professors have been wonderful and taught their classes thoroughly while offering support when needed.
