I think that academics is one of the school's strong suits. Because it is a big name school, lots of faculty are nationally or world-renowned. This means you are learning from the best of the best! While I greatly appreciate having a program that is strong in academics and research, The downside was that there was slightly less time spent on the actual clinical application when in the classroom. Definitely something to consider if you plan to do clinical work of any kind.
I love that it is a great, recognizable school that is close to me! It was an amazing option for me, as I am a mother and did not want to uproot my children's lives to attend school.
For the Biostatistics program year one, you will likely be taking a course on probability and/or regression, using statistics software that will be useful in the field. Also taking an Epidemiology class, which is so interesting and applicable to our lives in an epidemic.
