Coursework is rigorous, engaging, and fun! They are a community engaged research university so there are lots of opportunities to partner with agencies, business, and community organizations for hands-on learning. There is an emphasis on real-world application of coursework, so no course is wasted to get you to where you want to be.
As a doctoral student in the Human Development and Family Studies program, the department was very political. If you as a student found allies in a few of the professors, then you would likely do well in the program and make it to graduation, but if you did not strongly advocate for yourself, you could lose out on graduating. The program was diverse and leaned toward a liberal ideological teaching orientation, which was fine. The program itself was rigorous and helpful in challenging students to learn and become experts in their fields. If you feel called to a career in research and/or academia, then this program can assist you in finding suitable work post-graduation. However, you intend to work in an area other than research or academia, be prepared to have to justify your placement in the program.
Excellent ROI school, for both Undergraduate and Graduate. I attended UNCG as an undergrad and years later now as a grad student in the part-time MBA program. A quality education for a reasonable price! The advisors and professors genuinely care about the student body as a whole. Excellent tools available for growth and support in all aspects.
