I am currently enrolled in the Public Health Administration and Policy program within the School of Public Health. The faculty is amazing, they have guided me incredibly well throughout the graduate program thus far, and always make sure that I know they are here for me whenever I have any questions or concerns. I am much more confident because of the support system I have built here in comparison to my undergraduate years. The professors and TAs I've had in my time here also have the same qualities, making learning an enjoyable, yet developmental process. Furthermore, everyone is very inclusive, open-minded, and well-versed in mental health and emotional intelligence. All of these things contribute in creating a safe space for learning.
My experience with my program is one that has been enriching and personally transformative. The education received has been held to high standards of research, writing and communication. The main professors bring an incredible amount of real-world experience, knowledge and have been responsible for the creation and development of the degree program over many years. Classes have been completely online due to the pandemic. Under normal circumstances some in-person weekends would be required. I have been able to continue working my regular job all the while taking classes on a part-time basis. I have found the support staff for my program to be friendly, engaging and willing to help in any way possible. Overall, this has been a positive experience.
The University of Minnesota is an amazing place to learn veterinary medicine. One of the best parts of my experience is the hands-on anatomy labs. You get to really see where all the organ systems are on the cadavers. The professors are very understanding and want you to succeed. There's no competition to really try and be the best since we all clearly deserve to be there. If we weren't deserving, then we wouldn't have been accepted.
The worst part of my experience has been some of my own classmates. Unfortunately, there will always be cliques no matter where you go, and that does not change even in a doctoral/graduate experience.
