University of Connecticut School of Social Work Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 3 reviews
The MSW program consists of classes and field education (internship). I opted for the 2-year track, meaning I would take a full-time class load and an internship concurrently for all 4 semesters. I am currently in my first semester of the program. It has started well; my 4 professors are all very qualified and extremely passionate about social work, and I was offered a good deal of support in finding an internship placement. My internship gives me an opportunity to apply class material in a professional environment, is quite fulfilling, and is healthily challenging. There is an abundance of assigned readings and assignments, which is unfortunately time-consuming.
Grad school has been so far very challenging yet rewarding. I live a 10 minute drive away, so I commute to Hartford and have a parking pass to a garage about a 7 minutes' walk away from the school. Outside of the classroom, I am still busy with assignments--making me quit my job, remain living at home, and entirely relying on student loans. I also am a caretaker for my disabled mother, so I have several home/personal responsibilities as well.
The University of Connecticut is a very supportive, diverse, academically enriching place for education growth. I have learned a great deal from the very knowledgeable and helpful professors and staff on the West Hartford campus. I think that the campus has a lot to offer with extra curricular activities and involvements and UCONN does a great job of trying to get students involved outside of the classroom. I would highly recommend this campus and the Master's of Social Work program to anyone interested. The parking is convenient, the campus is small, and the environment is personable. I am honored the opportunity to pursue my masters degree at this prestigious university.
