University of Colorado - Boulder Graduate Reviews

The graduate music school at CU Boulder is in the top 15 in the nation, and there are many awesome things about it, but the voice department is pretty corrupt. The opera director is terrible and has no idea how to run rehearsals efficiently or how to be professional. She only got tenured because the head of the voice department at that time deliberately hid a stack of complaints from students about her until she had received tenure, at which point they were "accidentally found too late, oops." Most of the voice teachers are pretty checked out. String and band departments are generally much better, but communication is a weak-point across the board.

Boulder is the greatest town! It is beautiful, the people are kind, the weather is amazing, and the city has plenty of things to do! CU has great sports teams with a huge fanbase! The campus is gorgeous, and the school is absolutely top tier!
I do like the school and the teachers, but the parking is an issue. It is very expensive and the traffic is ridiculous. I am VERY disappointed in the school not giving the same financial aid to summer students as they do for the fall and spring. It feels like I am being punished for going to summer school. Also the complete lack of financial aid for graduate certificate programs is ridiculous, again I feel like I am being punished for being a non-degree student. It that way this school feels very bias and discriminatory and old fashioned.
