UF College of Medicine Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 8 reviews
Although UFCOM graduates are highly regarded as they receive excellent training, there are many things that still need improvement. There needs to be better career advising as there were many people who did not match into a residency position at the end of their four years. They are lacking in diversity, starting with the faculty. They do not do a great job with making sure every student is well-mentored from the beginning and their needs are being met to ensure their success. For example, there are minority students in class other than blacks and hispanics that need attention. Also, the way they go about mental health and neurodiversity is probably what needs the most improvement. As a neurodiverse student; I did not feel properly supported, there were no available resources for me that I needed; I had to look for private resources with no funding or financial aid provided; faculty aren't exposed/aware of neurodiversity in medicine and thus mislabel/misjudge a student in that regard.
The Academics are strong at UFCOM and graduates are very well-trained and tend to do well in residency. Some professors are elite and well-renowned. Specifically, human anatomy lab is very strong at UFCOM. Some lectures can be improved, and especially exams in the first two years, as sometimes the tested material was subjective and poorly written. The exam questions were all written by the lecturers based on their lectures, rather than including NBME-style questions to better prepare us for our boards exams. Clinical rotations are strong at UF Health and we get wide clinical exposure.
Distance program could be more engaging, but the coursework itself was sufficiently stimulating. Most professors are passionate about their respective courses and deliver clear, organized lectures.
