The CIA ensures that its graduates are well-rounded and prepared to use their skills in the culinary field. With classes like cost control, menu development, management, visual art, college writing, and more, you can achieve your basic general education here while learning how to prepare and present different cuisines, cakes, chocolates, candies, and so much more. Even the culinary students get to take a baking course, and the baking students take a culinary course! The academics overall are wonderfully comprehensive and you can take your degree anywhere.
The Culinary Institute of America it’s been my home for not long enough. I feel like the experiences here are infinite and so are the possibilities. The amount of opportunities that were brought up to the table when the name of the alma mater was mention in the conversation are countless, nether the less, this just when the conversation was with friends from the industry or related to the food and hospitality world. Academically The CIA was not challenging enough and did not pleased my expectations from a bachelors degree That forced me to peruse a degree in a different school where I expected my money and time would be spent in a more efficient way, as a result of a better financial return of my investment after graduation. Campus is amazing and full of live and opportunities to explore stand out and learn more than just the lessons though in the classrooms and kitchens. Things such as clubs or work opportunities gave me a great network and tools for my proximate future jobs and life
The CIA is certainly a school unlike any other. You don't just spend your time in the kitchen, you take other courses to ensure you have all the fundamental tools you need in the field.
The Chefs are tough, but promote growth. This is not a blow off school--you come here to work hard and encourage others to do the same. If you don't have a passion for food, this is not for you. If you are determined to make food your career, this education will be invaluable to you.
The biggest downside I would say is the cost. You have to be very invested financially in your education to attend this college. You will have a great deal of student debt. I highly recommend taking the time to apply for as many scholarships and grants as possible, as the FAFSA will not give you anything close to a free ride here.
