SUNY Plattsburgh Graduate Reviews

2 reviews
I recently attended an open house for the new data science masters but I was disappointed it was not online although I found their price very competitive but I can't stay there for a year. There seems to be some things going on with good vs. bad reviews. I was treated ok on my visit. My parents had some items stolen from their car which is no biggy as being from NYC we should know better. But I don't believe the statements about it being fantastic as there are just too many reviews on good systems like this and them stories in the news just not to mention those police reports look pretty real to me. I just think that university needs to be reasonable in what it tell us - I drove 3 hours in and back, had my backpack stolen (only work clothes in it), had to walk around in snowy ice. I saw some students in shorts at 9F it just seem too extreme for me.

The atmosphere at Plattsburgh College is tense and unfriendly at least in the lecture halls (I don't live on campus). Many postings are inflated created by the college admissions with statements that are totally misleading. The actual campus is typically in a tense mood with a lot of crime at least weekly incidents and sometimes daily. The evidence is on the local radio stations and in newspapers or right at the downtown police station on their bulletin board system. Instructor ratings are on average very low even compared with the degree mill type institutions. After several rapes and literally hundreds of arrests for drugs and other crimes, by end of 2018 the student enrollment was significantly reduced. Most students have left if they can get transferred elsewhere or those with high debts are slugging it out here. There are great social activities downtown in the summer, boat parties, and lots of excitement around the downtown bars.
