Did my B.S. in Biology here, graduated cum laude in 2022. The vast majority of this school is STEM majors, so expect to never have small class sizes within your major. My experience here was mixed, summed up by bad professors and great parties. SBU faculty and staff, with the exception of a few stellar individuals, are largely ignorant and almost negligent in teaching classes and ensuring student success, largely due to the fact that most of the professors are researchers first and foremost, with teaching being a required stipulation in their contracts. It shows. Expect to fend for yourself, and to consult with your peers to ensure success in your classes. For the money however, it was highly worth it. I had zero debt, largely due to a full scholarship but even without it, in-state tuition is still very cheap. Intended to move on to med school but ended up doing an ABSN 2nd degree program in NYC instead since it is a way cheaper and quicker route into the med field.
I was in the Health Science program, and I loved it. I was given so many opportunities through my program. Our curriculum also gave me skills that I still utilize today!
I completed both a bachelors and masters program (Psychology and social work respectively). It has been a wonderful and outstanding experience. The professors are great, and the curriculum is robust. Because of Stony Brook, I've had the opportunity to travel across the states and present on social work content.
