I've had problems with other universities before, but the thing that stands out the most to me at SMU is that I have never felt like I was alone. Every step of the way, there was staff assigned to help guide me. I've had access to free tutoring before (not everywhere), but this was the first time I had encountered a Student Success Manager.
With this school and program, I have finally found a home for my career!
With this school and program, I have finally found a home for my career!
The coursework at Southern Methodist University is extremely hands on and collaborative. I am currently a graduate student at the University and all of my professors have taken a very humanistic approach in their teaching. I have been able to learn personal aspects of each of my professors which has made the experience much more meaningful. The professors and staff take great efforts in engaging in student affairs and are very involved in the program. Advisors are open for availability and provide exceptional advice, encouragement, and direction through the program. My experience has been positive and pleasant.
SMU has a beautiful campus and people who are willing to help and reach out without you asking. My experience as a law student currently attending has been relatively positive. The admissions office was incredibly responsive and helpful and administration routinely caters to student needs and responds when they can. I mostly like their response to COVID-19, where a day before school started for us, they issued a temporary mask mandate. I felt they really cared about the students' health, because being a private university, they wouldn't be subject to government mandates, and they decided to prioritize our safety anyway. Their health center provides COVID testing and vaccinations for students, promoting a safe environment and allowing students to feel safer amidst the uncertainty we're currently dealing with. The only issue is parking, and SMU admin has been trying to address it by promoting car sharing and providing free DART passes.
