Alum: NYU has a strong brand name internationally, and in my honest opinion it remains among those few private institutions where you can still get the return on your investment for your education. I secured a Research Assistant Technician job for two years directly after graduating from GSAS, and the combined experiences enabled me to get into medical school after reapplication. For "city kids", New York University is the school for you. New York City is your campus, which may not be for everyone, especially those who want the traditional 'college quad' setup like at an Ivy League school or small liberal arts school. I was able to commute to school from Brooklyn. Bobst Library is like a church to me. Thank you, NYU, for helping me get a 2nd chance at becoming a doctor! I went from a failed Princeton premed to a successful University of Rochester School of Medicine alum who has gone on to becoming a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in solo private practice.... Current Master's student: Grad school has been so far very challenging yet rewarding. I live a 10 minute drive away, so I commute to Hartford and have a parking pass to a garage about a 7 minutes' walk away from the school. Outside of the classroom, I am still busy with assignments--making me quit my job, remain living at home, and entirely relying on student loans. I also am a caretaker for my disabled mother, so I have several home/personal responsibilities as well.... Read 3 reviews

Graduate Student: (Music Department): Wonderful faculty and administrators who work hard for you and who are understanding. It’s easy to be able to work with many of the faculty members in the department, of you desire. Overall, the atmosphere is collegial and non-competitive, and students are helped to become their own artist rather then conform to an expected mold. The program has lots of freedom built in, which works best for students with high motivation/personal goals.... Read 3 reviews

Doctoral Student: At University at Albany, I've received excellent support from my mentors and the freedom to explore my own interests within the scope of my lab's overall goals. In areas where I'm weakest, I've been pushed to reach new limits. My advisors recognize my strengths and interests and guide me to use them as the "ore" to "smith fine weapon." There's not much I can say about the graduate community (COVID-19). I am delighted to be a grad student at UAlbany.... Read 2 reviews

Master's Student: The fact that Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences offers top-notch education is a no brainer. The administration and student financial offices try to help students offset the cost of attendance in a variety of ways, including assistanceships, on-campus employment, loans, etc. but sadly these are still not enough for the majority of students. I hope the school releases a greater funds from its endowment to financially support its students so they can experience healthy, sustainable education.... Read 3 reviews

Master's Student: The materials are engaging and inclusive. TC does a great job at offering material in a variety of platforms so that the content is only received through readings. I find this practice to be important because it exposes new and diverse ways to introduce our students to new material in our classrooms. This practice helps us to break the traditional mold of student exposure being limited to text. This works well for social studies because it offers additional visuals that can help students to better understand the lessons that are taught in class, make historical connections to current events, and find relevance and meaning with history. The professors are knowledgeable and approachable. The class space is safe which allows students to freely discuss topics that may be difficult. Allowing this space at TC offers students to be exposed to ways that they can apply the same strategies our own classrooms.... Read 84 reviews

Current Master's student: Studying Applied Theatre at CUNY under one of the pioneers of the profession, Christopher Vine has been an enlightening and rewarding experience. My cohort is supportive in both my academic and professional process. In recognizing that theatre and education in the US is still dominated by white leaders, it has been illuminating to be an Asian American in a space where my opinions and ideas are held in high regard by my professors and my classmates. Though I find the work to be sometimes hard and overwhelming, I'm driven to keep going because of the confidence the people in my program have in me. It's been inspiring and uplifting to be in an educational space like this. For the first time going to school, I feel seen and respected as an Asian American.... Read 14 reviews
