Graduate Student: Academically there is no doubt that YSN is a great school. We have some excellent professors and incredible lecturers, and there is a great academic support system in place. However, as the program has been expanding for the past few years, I feel that the quality of education at YSN has suffered dramatically. The lectures have become less interactive to accomondate class sizes of over 100 students in the prespecialty years. Additionally, clinical placements are luck of the draw and as there are so many of us there is unfortunately no guarantee of good or equitable placement (or receiving a placement at all during a given semester of the specialty years). During my prespecialty year, more than 3/4 of my clinical placments were clearly afterthoughts and meant that I did not get clinical experience in many things that my classmates did. Culture at YSN differs by class, though the specialty programs tend to be quite tight knit by the 1st specialty year.
