Graduate Student: Academically there is no doubt that YSN is a great school. We have some excellent professors and incredible lecturers, and there is a great academic support system in place. However, as the program has been expanding for the past few years, I feel that the quality of education at YSN has suffered dramatically. The lectures have become less interactive to accomondate class sizes of over 100 students in the prespecialty years. Additionally, clinical placements are luck of the draw and as there are so many of us there is unfortunately no guarantee of good or equitable placement (or receiving a placement at all during a given semester of the specialty years). During my prespecialty year, more than 3/4 of my clinical placments were clearly afterthoughts and meant that I did not get clinical experience in many things that my classmates did. Culture at YSN differs by class, though the specialty programs tend to be quite tight knit by the 1st specialty year.... Read 5 reviews

Current Master's student: The faculty and staff at UPenn really make the university stand out from the rest. I researched many graduate programs across NJ, PA, and NY and attended open houses to help me find my fit. UPenn's professors are not only experienced nurse practitioners but actively practicing NPs. They have insight that is invaluable and a true passion for preparing the next class of nurse practitioners. I would highly recommend their Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP program to nurses looking to advance their careers in this way. The only thing I can say in terms of areas for improvement is that the onboarding process for admitted students could be more communicative as to what the next steps are and the start dates for enrollment/classes. I've also reached out regarding financial aid and was referred back to their website which is where I started. I provided specific concerns and information which were not addressed via email. Doctoral Student: I spent many months researching the best DNP nursing program that fit my needs. Even though there were many to choose from, I could already tell that JHUSON put much more effort to make their students feel comfortable by holding multiple info sessions, sending weekly newsletters, creating social media content about the Baltimore area and charm of JHU campus, and being flexible during the pandemic to allow students to complete all courses and Skills Intensives from home. Unlike Duke (which wasn't flexible to my needs for my DNP project), Columbia (which required me to move on-campus to NYC), and Penn (which still does not offer BSN-DNP), JHUSON impressed me with giving me the option to do Dermatology clinical hours, all online format courses, and offered a BSN-DNP. It is no wonder why US News & World Report rank JHUSON's Adult Gerontology Primary Care DNP program as #1 in the USA for 2020. I'm so grateful for getting accepted to this program and I can't wait to start in the Fall!... Read 29 reviews
