Master's Student: Although I have not started at Duke University to pursue my women's health nurse practitioner (WHNP) degree, I know that in the short time I have experienced Duke that I have made the right decision in attending. From the moment I started researching WHNP programs I felt a kinship to Duke. I felt they had not only their students best interest at heart but the patients that would be receiving care from their graduates. Patient advocacy, especially related to women, is something I am very passionate about. Current Master's student: The faculty and staff at UPenn really make the university stand out from the rest. I researched many graduate programs across NJ, PA, and NY and attended open houses to help me find my fit. UPenn's professors are not only experienced nurse practitioners but actively practicing NPs. They have insight that is invaluable and a true passion for preparing the next class of nurse practitioners. I would highly recommend their Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP program to nurses looking to advance their careers in this way. The only thing I can say in terms of areas for improvement is that the onboarding process for admitted students could be more communicative as to what the next steps are and the start dates for enrollment/classes. I've also reached out regarding financial aid and was referred back to their website which is where I started. I provided specific concerns and information which were not addressed via email. Master's Student: I am currently in the Family Nurse Practitioner program. Everything has been wonderful so far, my only barrier has been finances. I am a mother of 4, a farmer, and a nurse. I aim to help my local rural community as an FNP and to gain a better future for my family. I have not been able to secure private loans due to a very abusive past relationship that I left with my children and supported us on my own and had to unfortunately file bankruptcy years ago. I do not have any student loans available for this term as well as I only have one class available to take, but it costs over $6k. Any help would be appreciated to get through this semester.... Doctoral Student: I spent many months researching the best DNP nursing program that fit my needs. Even though there were many to choose from, I could already tell that JHUSON put much more effort to make their students feel comfortable by holding multiple info sessions, sending weekly newsletters, creating social media content about the Baltimore area and charm of JHU campus, and being flexible during the pandemic to allow students to complete all courses and Skills Intensives from home. Unlike Duke (which wasn't flexible to my needs for my DNP project), Columbia (which required me to move on-campus to NYC), and Penn (which still does not offer BSN-DNP), JHUSON impressed me with giving me the option to do Dermatology clinical hours, all online format courses, and offered a BSN-DNP. It is no wonder why US News & World Report rank JHUSON's Adult Gerontology Primary Care DNP program as #1 in the USA for 2020. Having one other student will better allow you to converse deeper into the diadactic knowledge and help you to better understand the large amount of information that will be given in a short amount of time. It is also important to not stay in one chapter when learning about a single chapter. If it is taught in one chapter it will also be taught in a different part of the books in another chapter. Master's Student: Great school. I start in the fall, but already I feel like a part of the family. I have been introduced to my graduate department and peers in my cohort. Shortly after orientation I was given a mentor to help guide me on the way. Long Beach is such a beautiful campus. There are so many nice buildings and it is such a clean campus. I am excited to obtain my Masters in Social work from this campus. Long Beach is a great place to live. It is in close to both the OC and South Bay areas. We have it all - weather, entertainment, plenty of outdoor activities. Unfortunately, houses are smaller, older and more expensive than a lot of other cities. In addition, California is losing business that paid decent salaries and not attracting new ones. So if you have a house and a job, it's a nice place to live. Attending school makes it such an awesome city.The diversity, the staff who have helped me through and so far my Professors! Awesome campus and I can't help but mention the diversity!...
