Doctoral Student: I'm a doctoral student in Environmental Health Sciences, specializing in Industrial Hygiene. Initially, I had a background in public health and biology, with little knowledge in occupational health. However, my mentor saw a connection between my interest in nanotechnology's role in cancer treatment and industrial hygiene. A year in, I've benefited immensely from the program's interdisciplinary approach. I've taken courses that have deepened my understanding of occupational exposures while catering to my specific interests in cancer research. The best part has been the alignment of the program with my own research interests. Courses tailored to cancer studies have been invaluable. As for challenges, the unfamiliar territory of industrial hygiene was daunting at first but turned out to be a fulfilling venture.
