Graduate Student: What I liked most about the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Alternative Master's Program in Elementary Education is the realistic job outlook that the professors provided for us teacher candidates. To illustrate, during the first year of the program, I learned an immense amount about the theorists in education, hands-on and inquiry-based instructional strategies to keep children engaged, and the importance of building autonomy in children. We also got the opportunity to teach whole and small group shared reading, guiding reading, read-alouds, number talks, and 5E science lessons to students from various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. What I would like to change is the ability to network with administration more often.

Alum: The school of education at Jacksonville State University prepared me for my real teaching experience. The professors truly care for each student in the program and they want them to succeed. They give all the students the tools to succeed in their career. I was confident throughout the program that I would graduate and find my dream job that I wanted. Over all experience at Jacksonville State University was great. The staff was friendly and the whole atmosphere just felt like a home away from home. It also was close to home just in case I needed to go home. I know that it is pretty close to Georgia line to. I know that anyone that comes to visit JSU campus that they will fall in love with the beautiful campus and the friendly people. It really is the friendliest campus in the south.
