Graduate Student: I've had a great experience with NYIT so far in my graduate career. I'm enrolled in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The environment and sense of camaraderie among the medical students is exceptional. Everyone wants to help one another succeed. The pathology professors and pharmacology professors are very knowledgeable. Most of the professors are willing to answer questions and help you learn. The mentorship in this school is remarkable. There are so many programs and opportunities where you are paired with professors, alumni, and upperclassmen. The safety on campus is great. We are one of the safest campuses in the nation. The only suggestions I have for improvement is limited study spaces given the amount of students, the delayed scheduling information release by administration, limited research opportunities, limited rotation sites in the surrounding counties, and lack of on-campus housing. Master's Student: The professors in my department are very supportive and will help you get through the didactic year. They continue to help provide great support during the clinical year as well. The only downside is that you will not know your entire schedule for the clinical year, which makes it difficult to plan, financially speaking. Many of our rotations are local, which definitely helps. The program is in a rural area so rent is fairly reasonable. Commuting to and from rotations is not difficult but you need a car to get around. The program has told us that they are working to have rotations prepared earlier for future cohorts. I am sure that the pandemic has made it increasingly difficult to find placement for rotations. Preceptors on local rotations are very helpful and enjoy working with students. The financial aid department has its own representative for graduate students, who is extremely helpful and responds quickly. The student portal is up to date and is easy to use.
