Master's Student: The professors in my department are very supportive and will help you get through the didactic year. They continue to help provide great support during the clinical year as well. The only downside is that you will not know your entire schedule for the clinical year, which makes it difficult to plan, financially speaking. Many of our rotations are local, which definitely helps. The program is in a rural area so rent is fairly reasonable. Commuting to and from rotations is not difficult but you need a car to get around. The program has told us that they are working to have rotations prepared earlier for future cohorts. I am sure that the pandemic has made it increasingly difficult to find placement for rotations. Preceptors on local rotations are very helpful and enjoy working with students. The financial aid department has its own representative for graduate students, who is extremely helpful and responds quickly. The student portal is up to date and is easy to use. Current Master's student: I am attending second semester of the Family nurse practitioner program BSN to MSN program at San Francisco state university. The community is vibrant and welcoming, most students walk around in groups or couples which is nice to see for post pandemic times. The curriculum meets the standards and very comparable to other schools of the same program. Though organization skills and professor’s teaching skills can use some improvements. I work 24-hrs a week and run a care-home business with two kids. If I can do it, it can be done for people that are asking if they would have enough time. Support system and strong time management is crucial for success. And networking with your classmates is extremely helpful to compare dates and assignment schedule. Overall, I would recommend the program for people with strong self motivation. The program picks up pace and if you’ve fallen behind, it’s difficult to pick back up.
