University of Hawaii at Hilo
Master's Student: I began my graduate degree in the middle of the Pandemic, which has made connecting with my cohort difficult. Despite this, I have greatly enjoyed my experience here thus far. My program has put an emphasis on learning about the local culture, wherever you are, especially as you are conducting research. I have greatly appreciated this outlook, as most other places seem to focus only on the science and obtaining "western" knowledge. I also love my professors, particularly my advisor! Plus, I live on an island. Can't get much better than that!
That said, the University of Hawai'i at Hilo is not for everyone. If you decide to attend here, come with an open mind and be willing to learn about, respect, and embrace the people and place you are immersing yourself in.
