Master's Student: I am a candidate for the class of 2023-2024, and my course will begin in early August 2023. The Duke MMCi curriculum comprises 13 required courses, including a practicum. Each class represents two or three credits for 36 credits. All students must complete a non-credit ethics and equity seminar that meets thrice yearly. I am honored to have the opportunity to enroll in this program, and I appreciate Duke's consideration. As a first-generation student in my family striving to pursue a graduate degree, I am driven by a deep desire to achieve my academic and professional goals. Overall, Duke University provides a strong foundation for people from different backgrounds. Some reviews may mention that Duke University is on the higher cost spectrum for private universities in the United States. Master's Student: I have yet to officially begin my time as a student there, however, this summer I've been working with the Cancer and Weight Management Lab team by helping making informational videos for their upcoming projects, to one day show their participants. From this, I have worked closely with one of the PhD students, as well as the head professor, and have found the experience to be great thus far! I am doing it remotely, since I have not moved down yet, but there is constant communication, both via email and Zoom, the environment with the team is welcoming, and even if I am confused, everyone is very helpful. Master's Student: I have not yet started my program; however, I have professional contacts who have attained a M.Ed in Training and Development from NC State, who all have extremely positive feedback on the program. This program fits directly in my field of business. Asynchronous, the program is designed for working professionals, with up to 6 years to complete the required 36 credit hours. The worst part of my experience is being an older applicant to the program, not used to the electronic orientation process. Alum: I loved going to Shaw University. I was an older student. I was respected loved and nurtured. My program was Religion and Mass Communications. I intended to go into Christian broadcasting. I started with religion at a satellite campus in Durham NC. In my last Religion class, we had to present a thesis. This is what graduate students do. I was an undergrad It was long and hard work. After choosing a topic we had to do research I spent a lot of time in the library. We had to find papers books and articles that supported our argument. I don't remember how many times I had to rewrite that paper to meet the professor's and the school's standards. Then we had to present and defend the paper to 3 professors. That was nerve-racking. Other: This year has been great for me taking classes with Strayer University online and keeping my work life balance with having kids. I've tried to finish school before, and the programs didn't fit my lifestyle and there was very little resources and feedback from instructors. I can honestly say I had the complete opposite experience with Strayer, and this is where I would like to obtain my bachelor's in science with a concentration in Criminal Justice by year 2025....
