Doctoral Student: There's a large range for everything in graduate school. I'm on the end of the spectrum where I'm driven, willing to put in the time and effort that this program requires, and believe this will help me with my career goals because I know what path I want to take. Other cohort members are on the other end of the spectrum where they aren't really focused on the program, don't take it seriously, and don't know what they want to do with their future. Current Master's student: The graduate social work program is unique at Portland State University in that it practically predates the university itself. There is no better program for social work in Oregon, despite new programs popping up at neighboring universities and in WA and CA, the overwhelming majority of social workers Oregon come from our program. This provides excellent networking opportunities, but also means you are in sync with the wider field. Master's Student: Dual Degree Student in the Master of Fine Arts Visual Studies and Master of Arts Critical Studies. Most of my academic experience is from the MACS program, but there is research required for studio practice development in the MFAVS program. Master's Student: I am so pleased with the education I am receiving from University of Western States. My graduate program is science-forward and evidence-based. I am learning so much! It is amazing to compare it to my undergraduate program where much of the information taught seemed to be outdated, as the science and medicine field has been rapidly evolving. University of Western States is top of the line when it comes to distance learning, making it easy for students all across the United States to enroll and participate, regardless of their daily schedules. Master's Student: I've just begun my Master's in Nutrition at NUNM. So far, it has exceeded my expectations in terms of what is on offer and the support of both administrators and teaching staff. The school truly wants its students to succeed and become change agents in a country where our healthcare system and food system are failing us. The range of electives can be found across different departments in the university. The only thing I wish is that there were more scholarships available since any type of college or graduate work is incredibly expensive in the US. I'm in my early 50s and will probably never be able to own a house and may have to return overseas to work due to the amount of student loans I have and will continue to accrue through graduate work.... Master's Student: The online experience at Western Seminary is what you make of it. Teachers are open about sharing their personal phone numbers and encouraging them to reach out, and increasingly some courses are offered with live components. The school stays close to its theological roots while still providing students opportunities to apply learning to the present moment in their own contexts. The student experience at Western is significantly improved if one can remember their ‘why’ for being in seminary— keeping engaged with your community of faith and finding ways to apply classroom learning is critical to keep it from becoming wrote and monotonous, especially for remote students.... Master's Student: Professors are very accommodating and qualified to teach. The course work is rigorous and informative. Online schooling is difficult and it is sometimes difficult to develop a closer relationship with professors over video call, however I never have a difficult time reaching out or communicating with professors. I enjoy what I am learning and I feel confident about my knowledge in health and wellness. I enjoy discussion pages with classmates and giving/receiving feedback. I think that discussions help me to learn more about class topics and improve my writing skills. I appreciate that the coursework is challenging and on topic with the learning objectives. Graduate Student: OCOM is a great school for learning Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I would prefer a better location of the campus. Although security inside the campus is great, out of the building needs cleanup. Lots of homeless people around and the parking is terrible and expensive.... Read 4 reviews
