Alum: The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology/ Environmental Biology program at Tulane University has the best professors at Tulane. Everyone is passionate about their work and their teaching, and they care about their students doing well both within and outside of the classroom. It is a relatively small program, so by the time I graduated I knew everyone who was graduating with me. Three lab electives are required to complete the Environmental Biology track, and these were some of the best classes I've ever taken. As an Environmental Biology student you will probably (or at least have the option to) take multiple field trips a semester - I took a class titled Natural History of Louisiana that took a field trip every Friday. These were such fun experiences to get out into Louisiana and see more of the state beyond the city of New Orleans. I can't think of many negatives to this major - there are a few classes, like stats for scientists, chemistry 2, and molecular biology that were difficult.... Read 34 reviews

Current Master's student: The classrooms are small so it’s gives space for each individual and their own contributions to be heard. It is up to the individual to put into practice what professors teach. We are considered counselors in training, which is an empowering phrase because it gives power even to the student who is a novice compared to the professors (i.e., the experts). It is rigorous but challenges the individual for growth in order to embody wellness. Overall, I am enjoying my trajectory this far and will never feel too comfortable as I have dedicated myself to a life full of learning. I love to listen and I hope to improve my skills across the next 4-6 semesters in my Masters program. Niche User: Although I have not graduated high school yet! Why do I choose the illustrious Xavier University of Louisiana to continue my unorthodox educational path? From the moment I stepped on to the campus it instantly felt like home, in the back of my mind there was a voice saying that this was the school meant for me. Not only were the staff and administration welcoming but the students and counselors were welcoming as well. Throughout the tour we were constantly reminded that Xavier is more than just a school meant for you to succeed and be successful in your career and life, but it is also a place where you gain a family and life long friends. It's a place where you are guided to become your true authentic self while learning from your peers and other students around you. I wanted to continue my education somewhere I felt safe and open to communicate with teachers about my learning style while also communicating with counselors about the usual “college student struggles”.... Master's Student: Starting at the University of New Orleans (UNO) in 2009, I pursued a bachelor’s degree and followed with a master’s degree, both in chemistry, focusing on inorganic and nanomaterial chemistries. During my time at UNO, I gained a solid foundation in key scientific concepts, laboratory techniques, and research methods. UNO's Chemistry department was filled with exceptional professors and instructors with many years of knowledge and research accumulated. The research laboratory facilities at UNO had cutting-edge instruments, capable of providing in-depth analysis and new insights to STEM research. UNO thoroughly prepared me to enter the workforce in late 2015, with an eagerness to use my training and knowledge in the laboratory testing industry. I honestly do not have any worst parts about this school as of yet. However, I will make whatever I have there work for me. Current Master's student: This program is great for Christian students who desire to grow in their theological understanding and their skills in ministry. The professors are very intentional and relational with their students - the classroom feels like having a conversation with your family around the dinner table! Master's Student: Academically, the University was challenging but everything that you needed to complete course work was there. One thing that you have to make sure to complete are the weekly discussions. Those are important to help with engagement between professor and students. Those were my favorite.... Read 2 reviews

Graduate Student: Beautiful dental school campus near New Orleans City Park with new research and faculty practice building. Some cubicles in clinic need to be fixed regularly, but maintenance is typically on top of it within a couple days. Brand new sim labs and table top labs make student life more enjoyable and less crammed compared to other dental schools. Faculty is welcoming and always open to your questions. They are great advocates for learning! Some courses are in the process of being updated, but in general the learning environment is a good one. The classmates admitted into dental school with you are top-notch so the experience overall at LSUHSC School of Dentistry is one I will never take for granted!... Read 19 reviews
