Master's Student: I am getting a masters in the science of instructional design through Grand Canyon University (GCU). GCU provides me with an academic adviser and a financial adviser who are available to me all the time through a very user-friendly online platform. The instructors have been knowledgeable and supportive throughout the courses I have taken so far and the assignments have been challenging but not overwhelming. I am enjoying the process of working from home. Doctoral Student: So far, my experience at GCU has been great. The school has many resources set up for students to ensure they have the support they need to succeed. My advisor calls to check on me regularly. I do not know any worst parts right now but this is just my first year. I will go to the school grounds for my residency in January. Master's Student: The program staff do their best to facilitate a community online. Communication is overall pretty good. There are weekly, if not daily, emails being sent out with information on program happenings. Additionally, program staff are great at sharing/forwarding job and internship opportunities. Other: As a mother of four children, I have struggled since I have no degrees. I dropped out of school with my first pregnancy early in life. I went to get my GED with my daughter in 2012, and we both received a GED together! I lost a few of my grandkids to the system several years ago, and due to my own childhood traumas, I have decided to pursue a degree in Social work to help people struggling in the system. I have a passion for protecting children from predators, and reuniting families that are deserving to be reunited. I hope to make an impact on the lives of children, and families. Master's Student: I love that ASU is helping me get started with finding the location for my practicum hours & that they are willing to work with me on what truly suits my needs & desires. The entire staff is beyond amazing! Classes on all levels are challenging which keeps me on my toes & interested. I thought it would be too fast to have class time cut to about 1/3 of the 18-20 week time I had for traditional in-person schooling with my Associates. I couldn't have been more wrong! The 5 1/2 & 7 1/2 week courses with Arizona State keep things moving & require me to stay focused. The only less-than-stellar thing worth mentioning was that this time around I was paired with a brand new admissions coach prior to acceptance. Thankfully, after ASU accepted me for my MSW program I was then paired with the same success coach from my Bachelor's program, & I quite literally jumped up & down with excitement!
