Alum: NYU has a strong brand name internationally, and in my honest opinion it remains among those few private institutions where you can still get the return on your investment for your education. I secured a Research Assistant Technician job for two years directly after graduating from GSAS, and the combined experiences enabled me to get into medical school after reapplication. For "city kids", New York University is the school for you. New York City is your campus, which may not be for everyone, especially those who want the traditional 'college quad' setup like at an Ivy League school or small liberal arts school. I was able to commute to school from Brooklyn. Bobst Library is like a church to me. Thank you, NYU, for helping me get a 2nd chance at becoming a doctor! I went from a failed Princeton premed to a successful University of Rochester School of Medicine alum who has gone on to becoming a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in solo private practice.... Graduate Student: Rutgers Graduate School of Education requires 30 credits which can begin as an undergraduate, with the five year program, or two years after completing a bachelors degree. This school serves the need of those who wish to become teachers, or gain an additional certificate, such as school leaders, counselors, or learning disabilities teacher/consultant or wish to develop other career skills. The faculty has gained national ranking, awards and honors. They are diverse in perspective and experience, united in mission and commitment, and have created an exciting and vibrant scholarly community dedicated to the ultimate goal of improving student achievement. Doctoral Student: In the Physics Department, the classes are wide-ranging and generally well taught. They are challenging and require the amount of effort expected of a very good graduate education. However, the department is also somewhat behind the times in the assessment that is required for a PhD. You will spend two years jumping through hoops before beginning any real work for very little money. Many students wish to do research in String Theory, but there is little funding available and many students are admitted. Current Master's student: Studying Applied Theatre at CUNY under one of the pioneers of the profession, Christopher Vine has been an enlightening and rewarding experience. My cohort is supportive in both my academic and professional process. In recognizing that theatre and education in the US is still dominated by white leaders, it has been illuminating to be an Asian American in a space where my opinions and ideas are held in high regard by my professors and my classmates. Though I find the work to be sometimes hard and overwhelming, I'm driven to keep going because of the confidence the people in my program have in me.
