The Master of Science in Nursing program at Aurora University is designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree in a field outside of nursing and seek to become licensed as a Registered Nurse. This Direct-Entry MSN program offers a path for you to enter the growing field of nursing and to become a leader in a variety of healthcare settings.
You will build off your previous workplace and academic experiences as you take graduate-level coursework on leadership and healthcare policy — putting you a step ahead as you enter the nursing profession.
You will apply newly acquired skills and gain hands-on experience as you work alongside nursing faculty at top area hospitals, such as Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago or Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
The accelerated 75-credit-hour program can be completed full-time over two years, including summers.

I attended AU's school of nursing from 2017-2019. The program is pretty well structured in comparison to other nursing schools my colleagues attended. AU's program did not have a capstone which I feel would've been beneficial during my education but not entirely necessary as I am doing fine as a nurse in the ICU without it. We do have capstone students in my ICU and I wish I would've had that opportunity in school. Most instructors were great and very involved. Some instructors were not so great. I typically liked teachers who lectured, didn't read verbatim off powerpoint, and connected topics to real life scenarios. Some instructors were not very engaging and read the power points which were copies of sentences in the textbooks. Clinical rotations were pointless, but this seems typical across all nursing programs. I passed nclex first try after studying a few weeks after graduating along with a lot of my peers.
I attended AU's school of nursing from 2017-2019. Overall, the program was well organized and great for preparing you for nclex. Instructors had good visiting hours and were very involved in our education. From what I know, it was rare that a student was dismissed from the program for failure. Instructors intervened and tried to help when students were struggling. Students mostly just changed majors. Clinical rotations were sometimes very far, like in rockford for example. Rotations were good for getting acquainted with charting system, medical terminology, and patient care exposure but also very basic. I learned more as a PCT while in school than I did in my rotations. Units have you grab supplies, pass water, or do a med pass or two. It in no way prepared me for my job as a nurse. You pretty much learn how to be a nurse when you become a nurse. But I feel like that's an issue with all nursing programs.
