Portland State University Reviews
Rating 4.3 out of 5 87 reviews
The graduate social work program is unique at Portland State University in that it practically predates the university itself. There is no better program for social work in Oregon, despite new programs popping up at neighboring universities and in WA and CA, the overwhelming majority of social workers Oregon come from our program. This provides excellent networking opportunities, but also means you are in sync with the wider field. There is prestige to the degree and also nearly a century of experience that has honed the program to be responsive to the needs in the field and remain cutting edge.
I am currently pursing my BS and Master’s of engineering at the same time which is a great opportunity that PSU have offered. I get to have 16 credits while getting my undergraduate degree which will give me a great head start on my Master’s degree. one challenge was there isn’t many classes offered per term with structural focus which limits my ability to choose the best course that would benefit me most. Lastly I want to express my appreciation to all professors, they all have been very helpful and supportive which made this experience very valuable.
I enjoyed the experience of other students as most were returning to college from the workforce. It was helpful to have access to their wealth of wisdom as I moved through PSU’s program. My experience with professors varied from great to poor, however the great experiences I had truly shaped much of the critical thoughts I had surrounding my field of work. While many of the courses were created to fulfill course requirements, I remember appreciating some of my secondary courses more.
