Portland State University Reviews

I'd like to see less of a focus on identity politics and marketing gimmicks and more of a focus on academic standards. I think state educational institutions should strive to be politically neutral (and I say this as a leftist). Also, there are far too many classrooms without windows, which is no environment to learn in. Academic standards should be more definitive as academic performance among students varies wildly and makes teaching difficult since you need to take all levels into consideration. Grade inflation is a problem that is only getting worse, and it doesn't serve anyone except for the bureaucratic considerations of a revenue-hungry institution that wants to process as many students as possible.

The emphasis on thinking outside the box, challenging business norms, entrepreneurship, and sustainability initiatives is fantastic. I moved to Oregon from California just to attend the undergraduate program. I was not disappointed by the lectures and instructors. The only thing lacking was practical application studies in Microsoft, Tableau, CRMS, etc. No coding requirements or data analytics courses in the SBA either.
I attended the Book Publishing program within the English department, and it was a wonderful experience. The professors are knowledgeable members of the publishing industry, and everyone is very helpful and supportive. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the publishing world, whether they're an aspiring editor, marketer, graphic designer, or even an author. It'll give you a comprehensive education in the whole range of publishing.
