College of Social Sciences & Humanities - Northeastern University Reviews
Rating 1 out of 5 2 reviews
Completed Sociology Doctoral Program. For all the preaching they did on inclusion, systemic racism and LGBTQ-phobia, this department did not practice it. These are just a few things that come to mind:
1. Entered the program to do research on trans, but was told too controversial and no professors would work with me.
2. Approached Sylvia Dominguez to be on committee to research violence. She declined stating she believes one has to be victim of violence to study violence. Didn't feel comfortable telling her my father suffered from PTSD and was abusive, and that I was victim of a hate crime. Completely inappropriate and insensitive for professor to ask that question.
3. Told I should quit full-time job in order to focus on Ph.D. work as my privileged white counterparts did. I didn't have financial supports from my immigrant parents.
4. Only got $5,000 with no TA assignments (and only after I approached them) while they provided extensive grants and TA assignments to white students.

Professors were selective in whom they wanted to support and work with in the program. Unless you have time to develop relationships with them, you would not be able to work with them.
