I really enjoy attending UCR, and as a first generation student graduate I was super excited when I got accepted to that school. Now after almost 2 years I have noticed that my department (Sociology) lacks communication, preparedness, and diversity. When attending it felt like I always needed to talk to multiple people to get assistance with my issues or just simply get denied without a reason. It made me regard my choice to major in Sociology instead of Psychology.
I think the Sociology department should have a wider diversity among Professors to contribute to the high population of Latinx students who attend UCR. It seems like the department mostly hires White male professors in a major where there are high numbers of Latinx female students, their staff should represent the reflection of the student body in Sociology department.
I hope to learn a lot from the Teacher Education Program at UCR! I love the opportunities that are offered to me and my peers.
