Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 4 reviews
Their psychology program is renowned for its curriculum that the students walk away with. As it is a good program to gain the current knowledge of the field, graduate school is much different than undergrad. You become more involved with the staff and you see politics run the department. The professors are concerned with their career rather than being student-focused. The curriculum is extremely theory-focused and prevents any practical experience. The culture is very collaborative with little to no competition - take that as you may.
Overall, the program is very liberal in its thinking. If you do not think this way, it will be extremely stressful. Free-thinking and challenging the status quo is frowned upon. Diversity is the agenda that they push over everything else, including education. This isn't a bad agenda, but it is overemphasized.

The program is extremely theory-based and you must go and find practical experience. Tests reflect a "comprehensive test" model that is closed-note. In the real world, you will not have to commit any references and literature to memory, so I disagree with this strategy in its entirety. They focus a ton on current issues.
I complete my undergraduate degree at Akron and had an awesome experience so it was only natural to want to continue my education there. My Master's program has been even more incredible. The professors, resources, and training really help to prepare for real life.
