Academics are engaging and challenging. Minimal "busy work" as the majority of assignments are purposeful and assist in furthering understanding of concepts presented. There is a balance of courses that require more attention and others that are less time-consuming to offer a full load of classes and a manageable course load. Within my graduate program, some classes seem repetitive and could be condensed in order to save students both time and money. For example, this program contains an overview research class, a quantitative research class, and a qualitative research class. The overview class is unnecessary due to covering the same concepts in the other two classes. However, after didactic coursework, I performed well within my first level II fieldwork rotation. Despite this, I do feel like a larger emphasis is placed on research/thesis and if a larger focus was placed on the practical application of materials, I would be more confident in my skillset and implication of knowledge.
Brenau University has great professors who care about their student's success within the classroom. They are willing to be flexible and assist students when needed. Due to few professors and small classes, you are able to build a relationship with the professors and develop mentors to refer to beyond graduation. However, professors are not aware of tuition and the cost of fees. The excessive cost of tuition does not match the materials and resources provided. Students are charged with high lab fees, but labs are not adequately stocked for optimal student success. Supplies are either broken or there is not enough. There is also a lack of communication between the program staff to students regarding scheduling, tuition changes, and other timely information. Note: this is for my specific graduate program and could differ across programs.
I am excited to start my doctorate program! All the professors are friendly and knowledgeable. The students are approachable and the school has many resources to help their students.
