I really enjoyed my program and liked the overall structure. The classes were small and the courses were very practical and hands on. Classes focused on ensuring we had an understanding of how everything relates to the work not just tests or memory but real application. Lecturers were very knowledgeable and flexible. There's lots of opportunity for reflection and students in my classes were very much interested in helping to improve the lives of children. There is a huge focus on social justice and equity.
I loved how progressive the education is. It is really what is needed for educators out in buildings. Sometimes however, when you get into the real world, things do not align well with the philosophies and ideals and can be a hard transition if you go into the public school system. Overall though, I think we are prepared well and have the tools we need to succeed.
Academics at Bank Street is great. There are many informative and interesting readings from textbooks and articles alike. There is a good deal of essay writing about the content we learn in each course. The school itself is not entirely grade focused; some teachers do not log your grades onto Canvas, which makes it difficult to track your progress in some courses.
