Some professors or instructors have unfair grading policies. For example, my CTA326 instructor requires "at least two responses" to discussion board posts as per the syllabus. However, upon putting only two responses, I was given only a 99 out of 100 because I did not "exceed the required minimum" amount of work. Well, if exceeding the required minimum was necessary to receive a perfect score, the required minimum should not be only two. Also, another instructor gave me an "A-" and deducted points from my responses for not being in APA style when the posts' formats were VERY informal and provided no instruction other than to give a response. She deducted points from me for failing to cite my source in a response to a prompt asking about your personal work experience--the source she wanted me to cite was MYSELF! My ENG310 instructor gave no feedback throughout the class, but tried to give me a "B" on the final research essay. I contested the grade and she changed it to an "A."
First, let me start off by saying that I have attended an actual university. I was a full-time student at Stockton University (in person) prior to transferring to Wilmington, and it was not the experience that I had hoped for. Yes, I met wonderful friends, but I also found it immensely hard to get motivated when there is no "work at your own pace" in a classroom setting. I have and always will be a self-motivated person when it comes to my education. I learn at my own pace, and I enjoy having the ability to go back and look up information that I have access to from an online class. I always wanted the “college experience” but with being a nontraditional student it was just not in the cards for me. Please, if you want caring, attentive, hard-working professors then this university is for you. All you need to do is put in the hard work and show the professors that you care about your education, the degree will pay for itself!
As someone else mentioned, if you are a disabled student I would seriously look elsewhere. I am currently in their graduate program. I completed the paperwork requesting accommodations for my disability (ADHD/depression/anxiety for which I provided documentation. My request for accommodation was denied (I requested extra time to submit assignments that were not time sensitive not to exceed 24 hours). I was however provided a letter giving me two accommodations…… Neither of which applied to me because The accommodations were for face-to-face students and I am strictly online; my program is not even offered face-to-face. I challenged the lack of applicable accommodations and I was ignored, told to get better time management skills, ignored again and then accused of lying about my accommodations. This university offers zero support for disabled students and someone should really challenge them legally.
