Western Michigan University Reviews
My experience with Western Michigan University has been excellent thus far! I have been enrolled in two of the different choral ensembles, one of which being University Choral, which won an international competition in the Baltic states in 2017. This university has given me the edge I need to compete for employment in the choral music education field. I feel confident that the professors of this college have given me enough excellent experiences in the professional music world to guarantee me an extraordinary musical career. I am excited to face the musical world with the connections I made at Western Michigan University.
I loved the people who attends Western as well as the faculty and staff. Western has really allowed me to get out my comfort zone and expand with the variety of different people, clubs, and organizations. Western has tons of opportunities to help you grow as a student and into an adult. There are so many Registered Student Organizations (RSO) on campus. I love that being a student on campus you can voice your opinions and feel comfortable doing so. There are places on campus for the LGBT community to go and feel safe! Western makes sure you can get the full experience and still learn.
The music program at Western includes top-notch faculty and well-run courses, and has a genuine sense of community and support from both peers and teachers. Though the competition is tough and every student is individual challenged, there are no negative undertones, and it is made quite obvious that the majority of people wish to see you succeed and be happy. It is an excellent environment for aspiring musicians. As for dorm life, the conditions are basic, but not unclean or unattractive. The overall campus is beautiful and bucolic. Everything always appears well-kept and inviting, and provides a much-needed sense of earthiness amid the cement and brick buildings. There is an impressive amount of diversity on campus, and the University displays itself as one always willing to grow and maintain a worldly community. I have never felt unsafe on campus. The food is my only prominent negative. It is much too expensive for it's quality. Overall, WMU is an incredible stepping-stone!
