Western Governors University Reviews
I am finishing up my 3rd year at WGU and it has been a wonderful experience. The professors are wonderfully responsive, every student is assigned a mentor and mine has definitely helped me along the way. Jeff, my mentor, has assisted me, when he can and has always had my back. I have learned so much and the course work is challenging but doable. Just because it is an online school, do not think the work is going to be easy. I have just completed my externship for the Health Information Management program and it was amazing to bring what I learned in the books to life. My suggestion to anyone considering going to school. Look at WGU, you will be very happy that you at least considered it!
You learn at your own pace. You decide how much you pay per class - you pay a base amount per month, for a minimum of 12 CUs, but once you've completed those CUs, you can continue adding CUs and take as many as you can complete. If you have a lot of experience in one area, you can essentially "test out" of the course without wasting a lot of time. You learn based on your own preferences - you can read the book, participate in cohorts/watch videos, or you can schedule learning sessions with your mentors. There are wonderful resources, with people helping you celebrate your successes along the way!
WGU is an awesome alternative to physical campus types. It is competency-based, & flat-rate fees. Nothing extra to pay for. The teacher's college is wonderful. I have had a majority of good experiences with the online experience, and anything that was not a good experience was quickly remedied. Originally I had problems with the proctoring, not only in my area, but online. WGU was amazing, meaning they took my criticism and suggestions and fixed the problem within the next few months. Even though this sounds like a long time to fix the problem, in reality that is super quick. The staff has no problem helping me with any sort of problem I may have. The only thing I would appreciate is more availability for some sort of tutoring to happen soon. I would recommend WGU to anyone looking for a way to finish or accomplish a degree. I am almost done, and am looking forward to the next degree step with WGU!
