I decided to pursue a Graduate Degree in Special Education since my son is on the Autism spectrum. Since WGU offers a comprehensive online program, I have been able to successfully work on my degree at my own pace while working and raising two small children. I was assigned a mentor who I have had weekly calls with throughout my program, I receive Monday Motivational texts and every instructor I have had has been quick to respond and beyond willing to help. I honestly wouldn't change my experience and would highly recommend them for anyone pursuing a college degree. The program I am in allows for competency-based learning. This allowed me to test out of classes where I already had experience and knew the material. Additionally, the Math Center was an incredible resource that assisted me with passing my Math Praxis, not being my strongest subject, they met with me 4x a week for 45 minutes until I was confident, I would pass. With their help I did! This has been a wonderful experience!
I came into my upper level college experience with WGU after having attended no schools or university for several years. My confidence to be successful in college was very low because due to social anxiety I had not done well in the past. But after finding WGU and seeing the benefits to their competency based learning style I had hopes that I could do well in this type of college. That has certainly been the case so far. If you are someone who needs motivation you will definitely love the fact that you are assigned a mentor throughout your college experience. They can help you with any questions, send encouraging emails and are just there as a support. You are allowed to take each class at your own pace (to a degree) and you are encouraged to reach out to your professors for clarification on assignments or on the material itself. My experience with WGU has been wonderful!
First and foremost, this institution ensures that students have all the resources and support necessary to excel throughout coursework. Next, I like that you have to REALLY know the material. Cheating and skating by is virtually impossible. WGU graduates know their (soon-to-be our) stuff. Professors are always so easily accessible and are so passionate about whatever subjects they are teaching. Like they do this for real! Lastly, I haven't had a single bad experience with school staff, even when things were horrible. It was clear that supporting me through my academic experience was the top priority for every individual with whom I interacted or communicated. I HIGHLY recommend this institution for anyone considering colleges.
