WGU is geared toward the student who is self-reliant, technologically capable, and dedicated to their success in completing a degree program. All colleges and universities have course work, exams, and professors; so does WGU. Pre-assessment exams allow a student to determine if studying is needed, or whether they know enough to take the final exam right away. Although each semester will have at least 12 units assigned which must be passed, taking and passing additional finals for more courses allows a student to complete more courses in a semester. There is a flat tuition fee per semester, so the more courses passed, the lower the cost per course and the faster a student can complete a degree. This is an awesome way to be in school!
I have two degrees from WGU, B.S. in Business Management and a MBA Information Technology Management. WGU is a GREAT school for those who are extremely self-motivated. I felt that my education at WGU was very relevant to my career and my education has already helped me get the job I wanted. Most of the negative reviews I have read are from self-inflicted issues because a student didn’t do their research. I will give one piece of advice. If you go to WGU get a student mentor that fits you! If you don’t click with your student mentor, get a new one. So I highly recommend WGU, just do your research ahead of time so that you know what you are getting into.
Before graduation, your student mentor gives you all sorts of resources to help look for careers and what you can look for after graduation. WGU also has a student career center that helps with resumes, interviews, and any other questions a student looking for a new career may need. I am going to go on for my masters once my bachelors is complete. My student mentor informed me that if I have one bachelors program course to finish in a term, I do not have to wait for another term to begin my masters. They will let me start my masters course right away! No waste of time or money. Sadly, I will have a new mentor because of the advancement in my degree program, but I am sure my new mentor will help out just as much.
