Very friendly community. Makes you feel at home. If you need directions or don't know something, don't feel shy and ask a stranger, they will be eager to help! Also, I love that they provide full financial aid packages that don't include loans (if you don't want them) so you can cover your education with just grants and scholarships. They also have a wide array of departmental scholarships and external scholarships on their website that you can apply for year round. It's never too late. They also offer emergency assistance funds to students in need if you have a fire, flood, your car breaks down, or some other catastrophe befalls you. The school really tries to help you out. I was also interested in research my freshman year and got into a research lab as WSU is a Tier 1 research institution. There is tons of funding for undergraduate research and opportunities to get into a lab and work on your own project. I highly recommend this school.
I have had the best years of my life so far at WSU. The community here in Pullman is extremely diverse and everyone (staff and students) are always welcoming and supportive! When the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, we had to move online. Faculty tried their hardest to make sure all students had the resources they needed in order to thrive. If they did not, faculty continued to show their support and work to resolve the issues with their students.
My favorite thing about WSU is the community. The community is so welcoming and helpful, a wonderful atmosphere to live in and immerse yourself in. The students, professors, and staff are so nice and genuine. The setting and vibe you get from WSU is unlike other universities I have toured. Also I won't forget to mention that since WSU is in a college town, the prices in town at the nearby stores are tailored towards student budgets which makes living affordable.
Another one of my favorite aspects of WSU is the food, specifically Ferdinand's ice cream shop and the Cougar Gold cheese. The ice cream shop has amazing flavors like Cougar Tracks (think peanut butter, chocolate, vanilla), huckleberry, and even apple pie. The shop also has a variety of house made cheeses, fresh curds, and even smoked meats. It's just something you can't beat.
WSU is a great college, it's campus is easy to walk around (make sure you're okay with lots of hills!), and the community is wonderful. Go Cougs!
