When I first made the decision to go to Virginia Western Community College, I was not too excited about taking classes at a community college. Though I knew that it was the best financial option for me at the time, I still had no ambition to complete my studies. After my first semester, I did not do too well because of my lack of determination. Once I realized that I also was not ready to attend a university and Virginia Western was in my best interest, I started to work harder and do better in my classes. I am grateful for Virginia Western Community College giving me the encouragement to succeed and offering me the cheapest classes ever. After applying for FAFSA, I was even able to receive money back for attending Virginia Western! I feel very lucky that I was able to have this opportunity in the first place. Not only were my courses extremely cheap for college, but Virginia Western offers a lot of the classes that have encouraged and persuaded me to get my masters in social work.
Virginia Western was an invaluable step in my education. I graduated early and began attending as a dual-enrolled student, and I could not have selected a better alternative. Not only is it a much more affordable way to start college, if one puts in sufficient effort there is opportunity for a very comprehensive and quality education. Additionally, I gleaned critical interpersonal skills that have helped me transition smoothly into young adulthood and professional life. The opportunity for very personal interactions with the professors provides an incredible resource of support in this regard. The campus is small, but the school has ambitious plans for extension in coming years. As this occurs, I am confident that the warm student population will only continue to diversify and provide excellent social immersion comparable to the professional world.
I start at this school in the fall, and I already know I'm going to enjoy it very much. They're very flexible with people like me who need to work during school, and everyone I've come in contact with in their staff has been very helpful! They help people who don't know what they want yet, but want to get an education for their futures. I've spoken to some of my Professors already and they're very nice and want to help.
