So far, VSU has given me the best experience I could ask for. I am a rising senior and because of VSU I was able to excel in my course, join wonderful organizations, and meet wonderful people. Due to COVID-19, it was a hard time in the beginning of the pandemic for everyone, especially me. But, Virginia State University, provided safe counselling for their students, safe activity's we could do on and off campus, and still provide the best education virtually at the time. This school has given me every opportunity any college student or future college student they could ask for. I recommend this school for everyone!
I am an entering freshman for the 2021-2022 academic year. My experience with applying, getting accepted and even orientation was awesome. Everyone was positive and encouraging. Each department offered a wealth of information. No one made me feel like a number; they made me feel like I was a Trojan from the very start. My experience with Virginia State University confirmed that choosing them was the right choice. The Campus looks amazing and the fried chicken we ate on orientation day was really good! Every Wednesday is Fried Chicken! There is also Chick Fil A and Subway on Campus; both I like very much. There are a lot of security cameras watching and emergency boxes on campus to call the campus police if needed. The police officers have body cameras insuring whatever happens with the police will be done correctly and fairly. The surrounding area of campus could be better but the city is responsible for that not the university.
I would like there to be more security in order for students to feel safer because my couple of weeks on campus someone walked on campus with a rifle. I would also like to see more room checks because there are students with things on campus that do not belong. I wish that there was more in terms of parties/events because I feel like after welcome week there weren't as many fun events except for homecoming. But, I will say that the professor genuinely care about their students and them passing their classes. My first year has definitely been an experience. I wish there was better mental support for students because I feel like although there are people to talk to, there aren't people who can really help you with the things you need. I think that if there was an organization where students could help other students and make them feel comfortable enough to socialize and socialize with them then it would eliminate bullying. I have seen some bullying take place on campus, hop
