University of Wisconsin - Whitewater Reviews
Overall my time at UW Whitewater was wonderful! I met some of my best friends there, learned a lot from all of my professors, and enjoyed campus a lot. I lived in student housing for the first two years, and the dorms were, overall, a good experience. They were clean and maintained, and fairly central to everywhere I needed to be on campus. All of the professors were very well versed in their subjects and always seemed to be willing to answer questions and speak with students about anything they needed. Creating my schedule was easy as well through the online applications. I had a job on campus and competed with the Forensics team, which was an amazing experience itself. Competing with the team allowed me to travel and reach farther than my comfort zone to grow my public speaking skills and fight for things that I believe in. I personally found most of the staff helpful and friendly throughout campus. As many schools, some of the dining areas need some improvements.
I took quite a few classes online, and found many of them to be just as good as an in person class! One class (Astronomy, that was taken as an elective) was absolutely not a good class to take online, but the professor was always willing to meet in person and answer questions. All of the online professors were very responsive to emails and in person meetings and did all that they could to support their online students. I know others who have taken online classes and the coursework is either far too much or the professors are absolutely not responsive, so checking things like RateMyProfessor and other reviews is extremely important. I found that the Psychology majors and the Special Education classes were done very well online.
I think that the University of Wisconsin Whitewater is a great school that provides many opportunities for students. They are able to provide all of the resources and student could need throughout their college career, through resume workshops, writing centers, career fairs, etc. I am pursuing a major in communications and two minors in business which means I've spent a lot of my time in both buildings. The business classes are exceptional, however the communication department could use some work. The best part about UW-Whitewater is that a majority of the classes involve group work, which really help develop skills that you need in order to work with others effectively. I think that this is one of the greatest aspects of UW-Whitewater that separates them from other schools.
